IKV Heart of Honor - Minutes of the April 7, 2019 Ship's Meeting

IKV Heart of Honor
Meeting Minutes
April 7, 2019

General Business:
  • The meeting was called to order at 1:08 PM
  • Present at the meeting were: Jim, Jamie, Diane, Erik, Doyle, Benjamin, Jen, and Chrissy.
  • Not Present: Isaiah, Hannah, Rob
  • Guests: Alisha Hellner and Jason Jason Kenniston.
  • Minutes of the February meeting were read and approved.
  • Benjamin reported that there is $105 in the ships treasury.
Old Business:
  • Grand Comic Con
    • Our invasion of Grand Comic Con was a success.
    • Our table looked great and we talked to a lot of people.
    • It was suggested that we be more careful that the entire crew not gather in front of the table blocking it from the public's view.
    • Klingon Jeopardy was unfortunately cancelled because there was no place to hold it at the con. We are hoping that this will change as the con grows and the con-runner becomes more experienced.
    • Jamie suggested we get two tables next year so we can spread out more.
    • Jim reminded everyone that O-Con will be different, there will be more activity, panels to attend, game rooms, and more events.
  • Photo Board:
    • Jim asked what was needed to complete the photo board. Jamie said that an 11x11 print of the ship's logo, a listing of our activities, and a listing of the ship's personnel and positions be added to the board.
    • Jered will be contacted for a high-resolution copy of the logo for the photo.
  • Costuming:
    • Benjamin reported that he has ordered he intends to switch from Ferengi to Klingon. He has ordered head ridges as well as Bajoran nose ridges for Jamie.
    • Erik reported that he has been gathering materials for his uniform.
    • There was some extensive discussion of planning a costuming day or days. It was determined that two possible dates include Sunday, April 28th and Saturday, May 4th to meet and work on costume projects.
    • Jim suggested that if you have something to work on, place a notification on the ship's private Facebook group to arrange a costuming date
  • Recruiting:
    • It was reported that Rob Paup of Grand Island has joined the ship. He has registered with KAG and is on the ship's roster there as a crewman. He has been added to the Facebook group.  He comes to us via contact at Grand Comic Con where he was costumed as a vary convincing Kingpin from the Spider-Man Universe. Welcome Rob! Qapla!
    • We will be Doyle up with KAG when there is an opportunity to sit down with a computer.
    • Jason Kenniston also has stepped forward to join the ship. He was given all of the information and will be official soon. Qapla! Jason will serve as the ship's chef!
  • Children's Mental Health Celebration:
    • The Heart of Honor will be participating with this project to be held on May 16th from 4:30-7:30 PM. The place is yet to be determined. Jamie thinks that it will be at the fairgrounds or the Armory.
    • It was agreed that we will we will either make a Tribble Toss game or a Tribble Paint-and-Take for the kids.
    • If the Tribble Toss is what we will do, we will make tribbles and the other parts during the costuming day.
  • Red and Wild Celebration in Lexington.
    • It was agreed that we will be making up a Movie Night basket to donate for auction.
    • We will include two movie theater tickets, two sodas, two packages of microwave popcorn, a DVD copy of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and a ship's brochure and business card.
    • The DVD was ordered. Ben and Jen are getting the rest of the items for the basket.
New Business:
  • Water for Runners:
    • The annual marathon that runs past Jim's house will be soon. Jamie was asked to call KPR to find out date and time for this.
    • Jim will set up a table and hand water to passing runners. He will be in costume for this.
  • New Projects:
    • A suggestion was made that the Cadets might read to kids at the Public Libraary.
    • Further discussion was tabled.
For the Good of the Ship:
  • Jamie suggested that with the ship growing, we may need to think about a little bigger place to hold the monthly meetings. Several locations were brought up.
  • Everyone was encouraged to look into a new location.
  • Diane reported that she has reserved motel accommodations for those attending O-Con in June.
  • With Chrissy involved in 4H Archery, Jim requested that we move the meeting time to 12:30. Everyone was in agreement.
  • Next Meeting will be Sunday, May 5th, 2019 at 12:30 PM.
  • Meeting adjourned at 1:48 PM.
Qapla!
